Noman Çelebicihan fue un abogado, político, muftí y escritor de origen Tártaro. Fue presidente de la efímera República Popular de Crimea establecida el 26 de noviembre de 1917. Es conocido por escribir "Ant etkenmen", poema que se convirtió en himno de la República que él había creado. Su muerte en manos de los bolcheviques durante la Guerra Civil Rusa todavía se conmemora entre los tártaros de Crimea.

Noman M. Benotman is a former fighter of the Libyan militant organization known as the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group. Benotman has been active in reforming his former terrorist comrades in prison, attempting to persuade them to renounce violence. He wrote an open letter to Osama bin Laden in 2010 repudiating al-Qaeda's use of violence, and calling on bin Laden to unilaterally halt all attacks. He is also a Senior Analyst at Quilliam.
