Georges Noël Besse, fue un ingeniero, empresario e industrial francés que contribuyó al desarrollo del programa nuclear de Francia durante los años 1950. Tras haber dirigido varias empresas privadas, fue nombrado en 1985 por el gobierno de François Mitterrand presidente director general de la empresa nacionalizada Regie Renault hasta que poco después, el 17 de noviembre de 1986 fue asesinado por Action Directe.

Véronique Besse is a member of the National Assembly of France and represents the Vendée department. She is the current mayor of Les Herbiers, after being elected for the first time in 2014 with 57,76% of votes. She has been reelected at her position for a second time in 2020 with 67,18% of votes. Besse is a member of the Movement for France and does not align herself with any parliamentary group.

Antonin Besse (1877-1951) was a French-born businessman based in Aden, where he spent most of his adult life. St Antony's College, Oxford was established in 1950 as a result of a large donation he made to the university.

Nicolas de Besse was born in the diocese of Limoges, in 1322. He was a French bishop and Cardinal. He was the son of Jacques de Besse, Seigneur de Bellefaye and Almodie (Delphine) Roger, sister of Pope Clement VI. He had a brother Pierre de Besse, who became Seigneur de Bellefaye and who married Margueritte de Thiers. Nicolas de Besse died in Rome on 5 November 1369.
