Vidyadhar Bhattacharya (1693-1751) was the chief architect and city planner of Jaipur, Rajasthan. A Bengali architect, who hailed from Naihati of present-day West Bengal, he was already working in the Amer state as Junior Auditor when approached by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727 to build one of the earliest planned cities of India. City Palace, a newer addition to palace complex, was designed by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob. He used principles of Shilpa Shastra and Vaastu Shastra to create a grid-based model of city.

Amitabh Bhattacharya is an Indian lyricist and playback singer of Bengali origin from Uttar Pradesh who works in Bollywood films. Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya was the second woman officer in Indian Police Service (IPS) in India, the first being Kiran Bedi. A 1973 batch IPS officer, she was the first woman to become Director General of Police of a state and retired on 31 October 2007 after 33 years of service. She then turned to politics and ran as a candidate of Aam Aadmi Party from Haridwar, Uttarakhand in the 2014 Indian general election.
