Sayyid Quṭb Ibrāhīm Ḥusayn al-Shādhilī fue un escritor, crítico literario e intelectual del Egipto de mediados de siglo XX. También fue miembro del Consejo de Orientación de la organización de los Hermanos Musulmanes tras su ingreso en 1951 y responsable de la Sección de Propaganda (da’wa) de la misma. Fue uno de los principales teóricos del islamismo contemporáneo cuyo pensamiento todavía hoy pervive como germen de algunas de las distintas corrientes islamistas más radicales. Acusado y condenado a muerte bajo la acusación de orquestar un complot para acabar con Nasser. Fue ahorcado el 29 de agosto de 1966.

Sayyid Al-Qemany is an Egyptian secular writer and thinker. His works emphasize the importance of critical thinking, and he is an opponent of Islamic fundamentalism, supporting separation of religion and state, and tolerance. In 2009, he won the Egyptian Culture Ministry's prize for achievement in the social sciences, a cash award of 200,000 Egyptian pounds. A judicial and media campaign was launched calling for the prize to be withdrawn by those who claimed Al-Qemany was a heretic who has harmed Islam and Muslims with his writings.

Muhammad ibn Ali as-Senussi in full Sīdī Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Sanūsī al-Mujāhirī al-Ḥasanī al-Idrīsī, (1787–1859) was an Arab Muslim theologian and leader who founded of the Senussi mystical order in 1837. His militant mystical movement proved very significant and helped Libya to win its freedom from Italy on 10 February 1947. Omar Mukhtar was one of the most significant leaders of the Senussi military campaign launched by Muhammad ibn Ali as-Senussi. Al-Sanūsī’s grandson Idrīs I ruled as king of Libya from 1951 to 1969.
