Samuel Chu
Samuel Muk Man Chu is a Hong Kong-born American activist and community organizer. Samuel is the founding and managing director of the Hong Kong Democracy Council (HKDC), the first and only DC-based nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Hong Kong's basic freedoms, the rule of law, and autonomy. Launched in 2019, HKDC has successfully passed landmark legislation such as the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, the Hong Kong Autonomy Act, and numerous other policies supporting Hong Kong. HKDC and Chu also successfully pushed for economic sanctions and visa bans by the US on Chinese and Hong Kong officials responsible for the erosion of Hong Kong's basic freedoms and autonomy. In direct response, Hong Kong authorities issued arrest warrants against Samuel in July 2020, making him the first foreign citizen to be targeted under the Hong Kong National Security Law.

Samuel Pearse
Samuel George Pearse, VC, MM was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Serving in the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War, he saw action during the final weeks of the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915 and later on the Western Front from 1916 to 1918. Following the Armistice he fought as part of the North Russia Relief Force with the British Army during the North Russia Campaign in 1919. He was killed after charging a machine gun post during an action at Emtsa, in North Russia, for which he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
