Joachim Patinir, también llamado de Patenier y Patinier fue un pintor flamenco de paisajes y temas religiosos. Se le considera precursor del paisajismo como género independiente. Continuador en la escuela renacentista de Amberes de Gerard David, recibió influencias de Lucas van Leyden y Van der Weyden. En sus pinturas, el tema principal suele quedar relegado a un segundo plano ante la importancia concedida a la Naturaleza y el ambiente.
