Ahmad Syafi'i Maarif is a prominent Indonesian intellectual. Ahmad Syafi'i Maarif was the leader of Muhammadiyah, one of the two biggest Muslim organizations in Indonesia, in 1998 - 2005. Ahmad Syafi'i Maarif was the founder of Maarif Institute and who led and inspired born of Jaringan Intelektual Muda Muhammadiyah. Nowadays, beside as senior lecturer in IKIP Yogyakarta, Syafii is active as spokesperson and writer. His writings about madani or civil society have been published in many Indonesian media. He received the 2008 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Peace and International Understanding.

Originario de Fez, al-Badawi se estableció definitivamente en Tanta, Egipto, en 1236, de donde desarrolló una reputación póstuma como el santo sufí más venerado de Egipto. Como al-Badawi es quizás el más popular de los santos musulmanes en Egipto, su tumba se ha mantenido como un sitio importante de peregrinación para los musulmanes de la región.
