Zhong served on Xi's staff beginning in Zhejiang province, then followed him to Shanghai, and then Beijing. Zhong currently serves as director of Xi Jinping Office and director of the General Office of the Central Military Commission. He holds the military rank of Lieutenant general in 2019.
