Edgar Schmitt is a German former professional footballer who played as a striker. He notably scored four goals in Karlsruher SC's 7–0 win against Valencia CF in the second round of the 1993–94 UEFA Cup, a win which came to be known as the "Wunder vom Wildpark". That season he also became the competition's top scorer with 8 goals, alongside Dennis Bergkamp. Philipp Johann Adolf Schmitt was a German officer of the Schutzstaffel (SS) who served as commandant of Fort Breendonk, a Nazi prison camp in German-occupied Belgium during World War II. For a year, he was also in charge of Mechelen transit camp but was dismissed for corruption and black marketeering. He later served in occupied Denmark and the Netherlands. After the war, he was convicted of war crimes and was executed in 1950. Schmitt was the last person executed in Belgium.
