John Knowles Paine was the first American-born composer to achieve fame for large-scale orchestral music. The senior member of a group of composers collectively known as the Boston Six, Paine was one of those responsible for the first significant body of concert music by composers from the United States. The Boston Six's other five members were Amy Beach, Arthur Foote, Edward MacDowell, George Chadwick, and Horatio Parker.

Aimé Painé, nombre artístico de Olga Elisa Painé, fue una cantante argentina de origen mapuche y tehuelche que se dedicó al rescate y difusión de la música folclórica de su pueblo. Según algunos, fue nieta de un gran cacique tehuelche ranquelino, el lonco Painé Ngürü, aunque faltan evidencias que lo acrediten. Fue legalmente llamada Olga Elisa por la imposibilidad legal de anotarla con un nombre mapuche debido las leyes argentinas de esa época, aunque adoptó posteriormente su nombre real, Aimé, para su trabajo artístico. El mismo se escribe igual que "amado" en francés, pero es un nombre de origen mapuche, y su significado sería "lo que significa" o "atardecer rojizo".

Robert Treat Paine was an American planter, ship builder and lawyer from Edenton, North Carolina. He served as a Colonel of volunteers in the Mexican–American War and represented North Carolina in the U.S. Congress as a Know Nothing. He was educated at Washington College.
