She served as Minister of Local Government from 2009 to 2013, Minister of Transport from 2005 to 2009 and party leader from 2008 to 2014. On 11 February 2014, she announced that she would retire as the leader of the party in April. She was succeeded by Trygve Slagsvold Vedum.
