Edward Donough O'Brien, 14th Baron Inchiquin KP was the holder of a hereditary peerage in the Peerage of Ireland, as well as Chief of the Name of O'Brien and Prince of Thomond in the Gaelic Irish nobility. In 1862, he was appointed High Sheriff of Clare.

Murrough McDermot O'Brien was the 3rd Baron Inchiquin. He was the son of Dermod O'Brien, 2nd Baron Inchiquin and Margaret O'Brien and inherited his title in 1557 on the death of his father. He married Mabel Nugent, daughter of Christopher Nugent, 6th Baron Delvin; Murrough O'Brien, 4th Baron Inchiquin was their son and heir. He was murdered in 1573 by Dermot O'Shaughnessey, supposedly at the instigation of Ulick Burke, 3rd Earl of Clanricarde.
