He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Waterford constituency from 1987 to 1989 and from 1992 to 2010. He was a Senator from 1989 to 1992, after being nominated by the Taoiseach.

Edward Peter Cullen is a retired American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as the third bishop of the Diocese of Allentown, Pennsylvania from 1998 to 2009.
