Mohamed Hassanein Heikal nació en El Cairo el 23 de septiembre de 1923 y murió en la misma ciudad el 17 de febrero de 2016. Fue un periodista y analista político egipcio que dirigió desde 1957 hasta 1974 el diario oficialista Al Ahram, además, fue director de la radio La voz de los árabes. Es considerado el periodista y cronista por excepción de la historia árabe contemporánea, así como uno de los creadores y fieles defensores del panarabismo.
