He served as the Mayor of Guangzhou, one of China's most populous cities, from 2010 to 2011, and was then promoted to Communist Party Secretary, the top official of the city. In June 2014, the Communist Party's anti-corruption agency announced that Wan was held for investigation. Wan was expelled from Communist Party of China on October 9, 2014. He was convicted on criminal charges related to taking over 100 million yuan in bribes, and sentenced to life in prison.

Tjong A Fie, Majoor der Chinezen (1860–1921), or Tjong Yiauw Hian, birth name Zhang Hongnan, was a Hakka Chinese businessman, banker and kapitan who built a large plantation business in Sumatra, Indonesia. Tjong A Fie built his business that employed more than 10,000 labor workers. Because of his great success, he maintained a good relationship with the ruler of Deli, including the ninth Sultan of Deli, Sultan Ma'mun Al Rashid Perkasa Alamyah and Dutch authorities.

Fan Hanjie, courtesy name Jie-ying, was a Chinese military general who served during the Second Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War. During the Liaoshen Campaign he served as the deputy commander-in-chief of Manchuria and director of the command center in Jinzhou with the rank of lieutenant general in the National Revolutionary Army.
