Es epidemiólogo de profesión y fue vicepresidente de la Academia Sinica, la institución científica más importante de la isla. Él es también miembro de la Junta de Síndicos de la Universidad Católica Fu Jen y fue profesor de la cátedra Robert J. Ronald de Fu Jen.

Hsu Kun-yuan was a Taiwanese politician. He was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He was a member of the Kuomintang. He was a member of the Kaohsiung City Council from 1994 until his death. From 2010 to 2014 and again from 2018 until his death, he was Speaker of the City Council.
